FISHER: the Great British Yacht
The story goes on. It all started with the Fisher Northeaster 30 back in 1969, designed
by Naval Architects, Wyatt and Freeman and from that early and successful design,
the Fisher as we know it developed, and later the Cromarty, a more spacious , sleeker
version of the Northeaster. The Yarmouth 22 and 23 joined the Fisher family in the
late 90’s to complement the range and to provide a more traditional gaff-rigged cutter,
that retained all the seaworthiness a of her larger sisters
Potted History
The first of the Fisher yachts, the Fisher 30 designed by Wyatt & Freeman and launched in 1970, was an immediate success.
During the ensuing years well over one thousand Fishers have been built, varying in size from 25 feet to 46 feet. They have been distributed worldwide and there are few sailing areas in the world where their distinctive appearance cannot be immediately recognised.
During this period the Fishers established a fine reputation for safe and comfortable life afloat, and their traditional and attractive appearance belies an impressive performance under sail and power.
Designers
Naval architects Wyatt and Freeman were trained in the Ship-building industry where they met and worked together for a number of years before concentrating on yacht design. Their belief that a serious cruising yacht should tend towards a scaled-down ship rather than a blown-up dinghy is reflected in the Fisher image, where strength and safety are the top priorities and are never compromised.
